I know there are some nice bar in kaohsiung like foster Hewitt , funk town, the mercury, roof, light house.
But those are all I knew. Are there some nice bar you have ever been recommended? Let's discuss it!

Where is funk town? Does it live up to its name?

Let's see, out of the bars you've mentioned, I've been to the Lighthouse - it's a pretty neat spot.

I really enjoyed having a few beers at Bottom's Up! as they have a "no indoor smoking policy" - my kinda place! I think it's the only such place with that particular rule here in Taiwan!

I like the music and atmosphere of both places for what they are. I would say the only down side was the somewhat "pushy" drink sales people at both locations.

Do you only want expat bars, or Taiwanese bars? It seems most of the bars you mentioned are north Kaohsiung expat bars.

Restless Heart mentioned Bottoms Up in downtown, it's near the Hanshin. If you want to just bar hop, you can start there. A couple cars within walking distance of Bottoms Up you can check out are Black Dog and Shamrock. Also downtown is Brickyard, which is probably your best bet if you like live music. There is also the equivalent of Roof in downtown, it's called Barcode and located upstairs of Talee's department store.

Another bar up north is Victory Inn, the atmosphere there is usually not bad.
